Gunnison Rafting and Fishing 2006

Gunnison Rafting and Fishing 2006

We caught lots of browns (and about 10% rainbows) over three days -- I probably averaged about 10 fish a day during the last three annual trips we took. This is a photo of a sample canyon on the Gunnison River -- although there are many types of rock formations, the river runs through a canyon for the first 2 and 1/2 days of the float. It opens up into meadows after that. Part of the fun is the sheer variety of water you face, and the ever-changing hatches as you work your way down-river and through different hatches and different parts of the day. We also go in early June, and it is HOT!

The Gunnison River is in Colorado. We went with Dvorak Expeditions, who specialize in this three day trip. The Black Canyon and Gunnison Gorge are federally controlled wilderness area, so there are few people around and it is 100% pristine.

Find out more about the Gunnison River Rafting or about Fly Fishing -- I heartily recommend this trip and hope to take it for years to come.
